The Tolerant Miss Kent
May 14, 2001

(Selected republication of old entries from the pre-Movable Type journal...)

A story I wrote about 18 months ago and sold over a year ago, "The Tolerant Miss Kent," is now appearing in Anotherealm. Re-reading this piece, I have mixed feelings and a renewed interest in only submitting my best work. "Miss Kent" could have used some more work before submission, even more work by the author I was back then. Just yesterday I finished a major revision on a story I started about the same time as Miss Kent. The maturity of prose (by comparison) is incredible. And, knowing how far I have to go before my prose can wipe excrement from a professional's shoes, I almost wonder if I'm being realistic in my near-term goals. Something to think about, anyway. At least "Miss Kent" is a quick read.

Next project: the writing of our wedding ceremony. Yes, with months and months of wedding planning already behind us, we're going to finally pay attention to the meat of the day. This is the ultimate collaboration, since my wife-to-be isn't much of a writer (her words, not mine) or a "creative-type" (again, her words), and I'm the type who needs to write alone. I need to make sure her thoughts and ideas aren't dismissed with this set-up.

It'll probably be easier than I think it will be, but it might require a lot of running back and forth to her for approval, feedback, and questions. I've told her for her vows, she'll say, "And I promise to make a meatball sandwhich for him every day, and to use up all energy each day for his personal gratification," and mine will be, "I promise to love her until something better comes along." She has a good sense of humor and hopefully so will our guests. Hehehe.

Also, the latest Mouth of awstudios.net newsletter came out last weekend. For those non-subscribers, you can find it here [no longer online].
