After yet another lightning-fast rejection from John Joseph Adams at MF&SF yesterday (no, putting Asimov's in the cover letter didn't even get me past the first reader), I'm tempted to re-aim this one at his intentionally-bald noggin for the quick, err, satisfaction that comes from a fast turnaround. But the same gut feeling that told me "Outgoing" was an Asimov's story is telling me this is as close as I've come to an Analog piece. Also: in the rewrite request for "Outgoing," Asimov's editor Sheila Williams noted that she discussed some of the story's science with Analog editor Stanley Schmidt. So I feel called to put a "thanks for that" in a cover letter soon, and this night's as good as any. |
