« 2005Q4 Quarter in Review | Rejections 158 and 159 | Rejection 158 »

Rejections 158 and 159
January 3, 2006

Not a fun start for the year.

Writers of the Future 2005Q4 (quarter ending Sept. 30, 2005):
Quarterfinalist/Rejection, 96 days.
My ninth submission to WOTF, and my fourth quarterfinalist story. Last quarter I placed in the semi-finals (which is one step up from QF), so this is a step in the wrong direction.

Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction:
Rejection with comments from GVG, 30 days.
My 250th submission and sixth to MF&SF. I'd hoped it would be a lucky one.

And now the Clarion application RTF is crashing Microsoft Word. It's days like today when I wonder whether my skin is thick enough for this job.

Ah, your skin is plenty thick, my friend. I've never met anybody who had such determination and dedication to the entire writing process, including the evil and seemingly insurmountable task of submission. You've had your successes, and you shall have successes again--it's inherent in your nature and who you are. You have it within yourself to keep plugging away, constantly refining yourself and fighting the good fight to get your words out there. Look back at the projects you've created that have found the light of day; remember the good feelings that welled up when you saw the final product dispersed to the world, and gain strength and renewed desire from those feelings.

Rock on.
