Back to Journal  « Missed | Pressure to Publish | Boy Feminist Comes of Age » Pressure to Publish August 4, 1999 (Selected republication of old entries from the pre-Movable Type journal...) I haven't been writing many publishable pieces these past few weeks (since being home for the last summer vacation of my educational life), because extra jobs have been dominating much of my time and energy. It is actually kind of nice not to be actively marketing myself and my work, since the pressure to publish has been my greatest hinderance (as well as my greatest motivator; funny how that works) since I began writing seriously last November. However, I'm proud of my previous output as my sonnet, "Forever Fair" is published this month in Pif Magazine and my review of the Nebula Awards 33 anthology is published this month in The Orphic Chronicle. Both publications are free to view, so be sure to check them out. As far as the state of my union is concerned, I'm right where I'd hoped to be (averaging 2 sales per month). In nine months, I've sold eighteen works (a few even professionally). I hope to use the rest of August to let myself grow where I need to grow, even if it means little more than writing exercises from now until the Fall semester starts up again. Back to work.

His work has appeared/will appear in Asimov's Science Fiction, The Rambler, LCRW, Weird Tales, The Florida Review, Futurismic, ChiZine, Pif, and Dragon. Locus Magazine has called him a "promising new writer," and Publishers Weekly also has nice things to say. Alex runs the audiobook project/podcast Telltale Weekly and the writer wiki Guidevines. He publishes the minicomic/zine Inconsequential Art. He is a 2006 Clarion graduate.
