The First Noel
December 6, 2006

The First Noel by Alex Wilson and Jack Lucido Pseudo-new standalone webcomic story for the holidays: The First Noel.

At the end of 2004, director Jack Lucido rang me up about doing something for the Triad Indie Film Network's first annual "Fruitcake Film Festival" out in Greensboro. I wrote two, and Jack directed them: A drama ("Felt Its Worth") in the 3 minute category and a comedy ("The Three Rs") in the 10-second category. The ten-second film still holds up well, I think.

"Felt its Worth" however was a series of stills, "La Jete"-style sans the moving shot that might legitimize our piece as actual cinema. While I'm still impressed with what Jack did with my point-and-shoot still camera and informal shot-list, all that was negated by sappy editing and worse music (my fault, both). So two years roll by and I think: let's play to the project's strengths.

So light a candle AND curse the darkness with The First Noel.

All's Fair in Love and Police Actions
November 13, 2005

Alls Fair in Love and Police Actions What if an icon like Marvel's Captain America was to the U.S. government what Mickey Mouse has been to Disney? Here's what a taxpayer-funded Steamboat Willy might've looked like during the Vietnam War in 1971.

Southparkesque animation by Alex Wilson (writer, director/animator, all voices), 2005. Concerns superheroes and was created for a Wizard Direct-to-Video contest, which is why it's padding the "comics" section instead of confining itself in "film."

Four-minute comics-parody film, available in Quicktime, iPod video, and YouTube (flash) formats.

"That was f--kin' tops, Alex!" - Brian K Vaughan

"Amazingly funny and well-executed." - Cory Doctorow

An IFILM "Clip of the Day," written, animated, and voice-acted by Alex Wilson.

Undersweet: 2003-2004
November 22, 2004

Undersweet A weekly webcomic strip which ran from August 2003 through November 2004, about a 20-something Charlie Brown type. Completely archived online (with a few easy-links to some of the best strips). This was my learning project. Went color starting with the tenth strip. The second installment was published in The Urban Hiker.

Swallow the sweet, refreshing nectar of Undersweet.
