Wordcount

Wordcount is how many words a given piece of prose has. Wordcounts are used to determine both story length (for markets with a limited amount of publishing space) and author payment (usually with a per-word payrate)

Poetry, by contrast, is usually quantified by linecount, and scripts by pagecount.
