A term widely assumed to be a shortened form of "weblog," a portmanteau term conjoining "Web" and "log," and referring to a chronologically ordered series of articles written by one (or a few) people, typically allowing for comments stored in a form associating them with their article. Comments are usually permitted from a much larger group of people than are allowed to create articles, in many cases without restriction. In some cases, comments are reviewed before being posted for public reading (or else they are rejected). In others, a limited community is authorized to post comments. Some blogs, operating as journals or diaries, do not permit comments at all.
Used as a verb, "to blog" often means to create and maintain a blog (as in, "I've been blogging since last year"), or, alternatively, to add an article to a blog (as in, "I'm going to blog about my new novel").
