Ashland New Plays Festival

ArtWork Enterprises has produced this annual event since 1991. The prize package has a monetary value over $1000, including a $500 cash honorarium. In 2007, the winners-to-submissions ration was a respectable 1:43. There are four winning plays selected each year, and the playwrights are invited to the town of Ashland, Oregon to spend a week working on their piece in collaboration with professional directors and actors, culminating with two public readings. In 2007, the readings were attended by 540 patrons.
Submissions are "blinded", meaning that the reading committee does not know the source of the plays, nor even any basic information about the playwright (age, gender, race, previous writing experience, etc.).
Most of the professional actors who work with the winning playwrights are also associated with the famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival—the largest and longest-running festival of its kind in the USA.
The ANPF is for full length plays (90-120 minutes) and does not accept musicals or plays for children.
Submissons must be postmarked no later than January 15, each year, and the festival runs in mid-October annually.
$15 office fee per play. Check the site for guidelines, as a no-fee option has been discussed.
