Carrboro
From Carrboro Hill
The Town of Carrboro is located in Orange County, North Carolina.
[edit] History
Carrboro was settled in 1882 as West End because of its location West of Chapel Hill.
The town was incorporated in 1911 as Venable after Francis Preston Venable, the first endowed chair of the University of North Carolina.
Two years later, the town was renamed Carrboro, in honor of Julian Shakespeare Carr, who owned many buildings and contributed streets and power to the town.
Today Carrboro is one of the most progressive communities of the South and has even been called "The Paris of the Piedmont" for its arts community.
